Desperate search is over

Yesterday I wrote my inaugural post of this blog, a description of the difficulty I seemed to be having while trying to meet with my Michigan legislative representative, Shanelle Jackson. I had no idea if anyone was going to be finding and reading this blog yet. I had a story that amused me, and I thought would be amusing to others, so I told things as they had happened to me. In the title, I gave a nod to a 1985 movie starring Madonna.

I am happy to report that my search is over. I will be meeting with Rep. Jackson next Monday. Before lunch today I got an email that a response to my post was waiting to be approved. Within fifteen minutes, a second response was waiting to be approved. This one was from Shanelle Jackson herself.

She generously provided a direct number to call, which I did during my lunch break. We had a conversation in which I told her what my concern was, she made it clear that she does try to be accessible to interested constituents, and we made an appointment to meet next week while she holds office hours in the district.

So why did I have the difficulty getting to this point that I described yesterday? Who knows? I am satisfied that it worked out.

I was amazed though, at the short time my post was up before it was noticed by anyone connected with the Representative. Especially since I have not had time to build up a readership. But apparently Google is the answer. Someone must have signed up for a Google Alert for Shanelle Jackson´s name showing up anywhere new on the ´net.

So I have new respect for the potential of blogging. ¨With great power comes great responsibility.¨ Maybe if Michael Moore had been writing a blog during the time he was making the movie ¨Roger and Me¨, he might have been able to hook up with Roger Smith sooner. Ya think?
